Interesting Knits

Corn

I found these happy little guys on craftzine.com this week. I wanted to post them on Halloween, but it was so so crazy. Work was a constant parade of costumes and candy and pumpkin carving contests and candy and cupcakes and candy and more cake and candy and sugar sugar SUGAR!!!! I had the biggest sugar crash in my car on the way home. It actually had me in tears.

These are a much more digestible form of candy – happy amigurumi candy corns, each with a little smile. And no tummy aches.

Knitted fortune cookies

Checking my RSS feeds at lunch today yielded this tasty nugget. Craft’s blog had linked to these knitted fortune cookies. They’re knitted in wedges, using short rows. Fun Fun!

As far as personal knitting goes, I have FIVE projects on needles. It was six last week, but my vacation allowed for lots of knitting time, and I finished my Hallowig. I’m still not sure if I’ll actually wear it on Halloween, but it’s done, and it was some fun knitting. But what wouldn’t be, done in fushcia? I’ll get a photo of mine this weekend.

Tonight I hope to finish seaming my Jess Hutch robot in class. I haven’t touched him in two weeks, and I’m afraid that I’ve forgotten the mattress stitch already. Sigh.

I’m also going to custom order the right red so I can finish Guy’s Jayne hat, which lacks only the earflaps and pompom.

Then I’ll have only one secret project to finish, and then two scarves. One is the French Girl Knits scarf that Jamy and I are knitting in the exact same yarn. (No planning on that one. She just has supremely good taste.) Lee made one for Eric that was gorgeous, so we both got inspired. The other scarf is one that I started in the lace class. I got almost a whole 16-row repeat finished before I realized that my edge stitches were in stockinette rather than garter, and I ripped it back rather than having curly edges.

So that’s me in a knitshell. Hopefully many many FPOs will be posted in the next few weeks.

Rainbow the Melancholy Robot Amigurumi

Doing research on knitted robots this morning, I came across these charming fellas. Actually, none of these are even knitted, but they’re too cute to be denied!!! Just try to look one of them in the eye without going “awwww!!!” You can’t. Well, with the exception of the crocheted Bender. We all know how evil Bender can be.

Anyway, I need a couple of robots for my Halloween costume, so I’ve been searching for patterns online. There really aren’t many, but it seems like you could pretty easily do you own custom robot, with some squared shapes and detailing and all.

I wanted to buy Jess Hutch’s Unusual Toys for You to Knit and Enjoy and make her robot, but the booklets are out of stock. There aren’t even any on eBay. Lee’s gonna lend me hers, and maybe someday Jess will print more and I can have one of my very own.

Nature Knitting

Tree Sweater

There seems to be a nature theme in the online knit chatter at the moment. (Ok, I know that last one’s not knitted, but still. It’s crafty. Ish. I guess.)

Update: Forgot to credit the links. The tree sweater was from the Schmelter, who apparently was surfing the knitting blogs on Father’s Day. And the macabre macrame was from Alex, who likes to accuse me of being a knitting geek.

Knit me a motorcycle, why don’t you

I’m not sure why, but this pink and purple knit motorcyle looks like an ice cream confection to me.

The motorcycle, created by artist Theresa Honeywell, has been on display at the Georgia Museum of Art. Check out her knit jackhammer, knit machine gun, and embroidered tattoos.

Green Gable

I had seen this pattern and decided that it was going to be my first attempt at a real article of clothing. It looks pretty easy and pretty wearable, so I think it’s a good choice.

Carrie and one of her friends started a knit-along for it, and I really really wanted to participate, but it happening at the same time as my knitting class, and I decided that that would be too much time-sensitive knitting for me to handle, especially when some weeks I can barely get any knitting done at all.

I’m doing a little better at the moment, though. Karen’s birthday was this week, and it made for a nice deadline for the scarf I was making her. I finished it in my car in the parking garage after work last night, and was able to give it to her at her party. (She’s being gracious enough to lend it back to me next week so I can get some photos.)

And that means I can now get started on Mr. Bigglesworth, who has been waiting patiently since December. December!!! I’m going to start it tonight at the Halo party. (’Cause, really, I’m no good at gaming. I couldn’t even pour rootbeer in Dave and Busters arcade game last night.)

Aaaand I have to finish the homework for my knitting class by Wednesday. It’ll be easy, though, because it’s just the garter-stitch bottom of the purse we’re doing as a class project. And I have dedicated knitting time tomorrow afternoon, which I’m really looking forward to. Yay!

Bobbi Bear

I happened upon Blue Sky Alpacas’ pattern for the Baby Bobbi Bear today in a magazine that Lee lent me, and, well, had to buy it. I’m going to give it a try after I get the practice cat and cats for Matt done. (Which I’ll start after I finish the hat and the scarf that are on needles now. And the Mr. Bigglesworth pillow from the lovely Christmas yarn that Guy gave me. Oye!)

*****

Update: Eek! After I bought the pattern, I realized that I paid four dollars of shipping for the four-dollar pattern. nGah! Seriously, they couldn’t have made the pattern downloadable? For Pete’s sake! They gave me a coupon for free shipping on my next purchase, which is probably the only reason I’d ever make a next purchase, if I do at all. So, if you want to go in on a purchase with me and get some free shipping, let me know.

Knitted graffiti

I always love it when people do unexpected things with knitting so I was thrilled when I came across WhipUp.net’s post on knitted graffiti. So awesome. I love that they even have gang names…

Wee Wonderfuls

I happened across this pattern for a homemade toy kitty – sewn, not knitted, but adorable and cool and seemingly the sort of thing that LeeAnn would love. The blog itself is amazingly cute, and her craft room is just too perfect.

They’re comin’ right for us!

Space Invaders Tote

I love it when geeks knit! I stumbled across the link to this Space Invaders tote on Fluffa! today. Now I really really have to learn intarsia.

Check out the stitch chart.

Oooh! And she lined it, too! Schweet!
